Meals2Heal Fundraiser

Supporting Oral Health Education in Madagascar

About the Fundraiser

In this fundraiser, you are invited to NOT bake a cake, pie, cookies, or brownies…NOT to force yourself to play golf, bowl…NOT to endure 10 hours of a Monopoly, Scrabble, or poker tournament…NOT to shop for the ingredients for a potluck…NOT to buy things you will never use. Instead, you are invited NOT to eat.

This fundraiser asks that you skip a snack or meal in solidarity with the many children affected by dental problems in remote areas of Madagascar serviced by the Madagascar Ankizy Fund (MAF; www.ankizy.org) dental missions through the SBU School of Dental Medicine. Children and adolescents in the serviced areas have an average of 3 teeth extracted and 2 cavities filled.

Instead of buying a high sugar, high calorie, high fat, high cholesterol snack or meal, the MAF asks that you donate the amount you would have spent on the skipped snack/meal to the “Smile a Day” Oral Health Education Program.

The MAF is a non-profit organization administered through the Stony Brook Foundation whose goal is to provide education and health care to children living in remote areas of Madagascar. Your donation will help initiate the new “Smile a Day” Oral Health Education Program by purchasing education materials for students and teachers in the region as well as fund an oral health training session for elementary school teachers.

Thank you in advance for skipping a snack or meal for a Malagasy child. Feel free to skip more than one per week and to forward the email to family and friends to obtain more support.
